FAQs

WHAT DOES THE ACRONYM "LGBTQA" REPRESENT?

We use this acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and asexual. In this context, it is used as an umbrella term for the entire community. We do acknowledge that there are many more identities not specifically called out in this acronym, however, which makes this practice problematic. As we have yet to come up with a better way of addressing the entire “non-heterosexual, non-cisgender” community without identifying ourselves as the negative of another group, this is what we will use for the time being. Check out the Trans Student Educational Resources LGBTQ+ Definitions.

CAN I INTERVIEW SOME LGBTQA PEOPLE FOR MY PAPER/PRESENTATION?

There are many research sources available to you on campus, including the LGBTQA Resource Center library and the Northeastern University library. Specifically, you can reach out to Kathy Herrlich and check out the LGBTQ Studies.

CAN I CHANGE MY NAME AT NORTHEASTERN WITHOUT A LEGAL NAME CHANGE?

Yes! Check out our Name and Gender Marker resource page for specific information and instructions.
